Three-time award winner Jokic suffers a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The star player sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental coming together with teammate Spencer Jones.
The other player came down on the foot of the big man, and he promptly collapsed to the ground holding his leg.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the league this season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest before suffering the injury.
Jokic will have an MRI on Tuesday to assess the extent of the issue.
"Right away, Jokic realized he was hurt," said Denver head coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as talented as him. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Of course, right now, I am more concerned just about Jokic personally and the disappointment of facing an event of that nature."
