This Special Release Pokémon Card Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

Marking the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators and London's Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop stocked with exclusive items. Enthusiasts will find products like stationery, plushes, and artwork that are inspired by the museum's theme. For collectors, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop will operate both the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.

Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited volume packed with beautiful artwork that show Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept like the kind of research a Pokémon Professor might publish after trainers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin might have created had the Galapagos teemed with Pidgeys rather than birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Stand Out

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company special edition cards celebrating major tournaments or brand collaborations. A lot of these promotional cards typically highlight the famous electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new museum card however, is the distinctly bigger size. Although precise specs were not publicly disclosed, availability is guaranteed to be strictly limited, and customers limited to just one card per purchase.

Limiting Speculator Activity

According to an official statement, a portion of the merchandise may also be available beyond the museum walls. However, a wider release is slated for specific stores in the UK. Critically, collectors cannot acquire this promo through the official web shop. While speculator demand is inevitable, the setup suggests they're going to have a difficult time hoarding mass quantities this time around. For those feeling left out, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to Chicago in the coming months.

"All profits from purchases from the museum store and from its web shop, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of 400 scientists dedicated to conducting studies to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
