The Reform UK leader Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “harming young minds” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” he remarked in response to questions.
“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We have got a massive job with schooling – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned at school, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
During the American gathering, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I mean this. I’ll assist garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I will follow through.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to all who wish to learn.”
