The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
