Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
