Well, perhaps an contest for the urn in Australia where they still have a chance to secure the famous trophy after the first three Tests.

This is not the case on this occasion, however, after a comprehensive victory by 82 runs in Adelaide left the home side with a 3-0 lead for the fourth successive Ashes series on home turf.

England's famous supporters' group, the organized fan base, have 3,000 fans making the journey for the last two matches in the SCG and MCG.

There are also travel parties who will celebrate the holidays in Australia, as well as loved ones planning a special expedition.

The Disappointed Travelers

A group of four supporters are among those affected.

The group had their itineraries and entry credentials secured for the Melbourne and Sydney matches "a full year in advance", dreaming of a long-awaited triumph.

From afar, they've seen Australia dismantle the tourists in just a short period from their family home in their hometown.

"People in the office has been giving me grief regarding the concluded contest for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"The hope was that we would have the series on the line upon our arrival."

Diminishing Hope

Optimism was high concerning a potential victory of ending their 15-year wait for a triumph on Australian soil ahead of the tour.

But they are now staring down the barrel of prolonging a streak without victory in the country to 19 games when the next match starts in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

Ben Stokes' side - and their fans - will be keen to prevent a whitewash.

Alex said the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach the positive style of play in recent years had "brought fresh energy to" the longest format for England fans.

However, the group said they had realistic outlooks for the remaining matches - and all they are hoping for from the players is "a show of spirit".

"All analysts points it out, but it all hinges on mental resilience. 'This style has been become a phrase now that is just, like, impractical batting," stated Rory Ryding.

"In a five-day Test match, you should hunker down. Playing at deliveries 'outside the line has never featured in the fundamentals, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."

Looking Ahead

Prompted about he believed England will win a match in the current series, came the reply: "It appears the Aussies are just too good right now."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that stands up for England and makes a big impact."

Despite the scoreline, the fans are looking forward to the trip.

"We are going to have a great time anyway," said Katie. "Our approach is that mindset."

"Obviously it is disappointing we don't have more to play for, but we have spent so much money already."

"We'll enjoy celebrating the holidays overseas. Additionally, it's our first experience abroad over Christmas."

A teacher, Katie is focused on enjoying the lengthy journey as part of her time off.

"As a backup plan, I've got golf to rely on," Katie concluded.
